Petrography and geochemistry of exported Colombian coals: Implications from correlation and regression analyses

The petrology of coal, as determined by the microscopic analysis organic and inorganic elemental constituents provides information on its nature characteristics. Coal is used worldwide in production thermal energy coke. In case high-quality Colombian coals, only limited studies have been carried out. present study presents geochemical, mineralogical, petrological characteristics coal samples collected from Puerto Drummond Cienaga, Colombia, to predict their potential uses. Therefore, ultimate, proximate, petrographic, gross calorific value (GCV), ash fusion temperature, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), fluorescence (XRF), Thermogravimetric (TG) analyses were employed this study. reveals that coals are naturally more abundant vitrinite (72%) than inertinite (14–23%) macerals. Silicates aluminosilicate main minerals fine particles mixed with XRD FTIR show most common dominant quartz, while gypsum, hematite, calcite mica occur lesser amounts. oxide composition ashes consists 51–58% SiO2 18–25% Al2O3 XRF analysis. correlation regression analysis, moisture content shows a reverse GCV (Regression R2 = 0.68). This helps researchers comprehend importance various techniques for characterisation coals.
